My husband and I often talk about how the music on the radio ‘nowadays’ (yes, we must be getting old) is not worth listening to. I find myself turning the station in search of something better or just turning the radio off all together. If a ‘singer’ is repeating the same line throughout the whole song in the most annoying voice ever… that’s not music.
It’s very refreshing to hear of an artist who breaks away from what the labels would tell her to do and make her own way, with her own style. Kina Grannis has renewed my belief that real music does exist out there, somewhere. It’s just not on the popular music stations. Her album, Stairwells, is all her own songs she had been writing for several years. When Stairwells was released it debuted on Billboard’s Top 200 and at #2 on the New Artist chart in April.
There are a couple of songs you can listen to below and experience for yourself the freshness of her voice and style of music. I love the eclectic mix of songs, some upbeat and spirited and others mellow, relaxing and calming. I must say that all of them are catchy and will definitely stay with you throughout the day. I find myself belting out lines from a few of her songs long after I have turned the music off. The songs are all safe for even the littlest of ears to listen to. (I get tired of hearing about pimps and body parts that I can’t mention here). It really is a breath of fresh air to hear Kina Grannis singing about losing love, falling in love, and having the world at your fingertips.. all in a beautifully written, family friendly song.
