When I first opened the Shushybye book ‘Sleepover Surprise’ and started reading it to my child, I was quickly frustrated.
The characters in this book are named Leo, Leona, Snoozles, Zeez, Dozie, Snort, Wheez and on an on. Most of them were introduced one right after the other which left me uncertain of who was who. With names like the ones mentioned above I was stumbling all over the place.
I tried to get into the book again the next night, but had to put it down.
Then I realized there was a CD in the front cover with songs and the story for your child to read along with. That helped a little. At least I didn’t have to get all tongue-tied trying to say the right names.

Shushybye Sleepover Surprise
The story in Sleepover Surprise is about Leo and Leona, two children, and their dream wishes to play with their favorite Shushies in their dreams that night.
Meanwhile, a couple of the Shushies are planning a surprise for one of their friends because she has been such a good friend to them.
Leo and Leona’s dream wishes come true and they end up helping the Shushies with the surprise for their friend.
My Thoughts
I still have mixed feelings about this particular book. It’s a cute little story that my child can enjoy throughout the day, but I don’t see it as a solution to get my child to go to sleep.
One of the ending songs is a pretty upbeat song that even I want to dance to. In fact, as we are listening to it now, my four year old is rocking away to it. I don’t imagine this song can help her get to sleep any easier. It seems to wire her up instead.
The very last song on the CD is pretty mellow, so maybe she can get to sleep in the short time that it is playing.
I really think this is a cute idea and an entertaining book and cd for my child during the day, but not something that can be added to our bedtime routine.
Close Your Eyes
I also received the Close Your Eyes CD by the Shushybye Dream Band. I had never heard of the Shushybye before and thought I would be getting a mellow, relaxing nighttime book and CD that my child and I could use at bedtime.
The Close Your Eyes CD is filled with fun and entertaining, upbeat songs. Perfect for during the day, but not so much at night.
I’m not saying your child won’t enjoy this particular Shushybye book and CD. On the contrary, they will. They probably will want to dance instead of sleep. If you are looking for something to enjoy during the day with your child, or for some reason you don’t want your child to sleep, then Shushybye will be a wonderful addition to your child’s bookshelf and CD collection!

Have you heard of the Shushybyes? Do you and your child enjoy them?

That’s the funny – those are really weird names. I wonder if the sounds of the names have some type of calming, soothing effect that is supposed to make the kids fall asleep? Lots of rhyming sounds going on there.
