My anniversary was this month. 6 years. Six years and we still didn’t have a wedding album. We had tons of pictures from our photographer, but nothing to put them in. I’m not patient or creative enough to do a scrapbook, so instead I decided to scan in the pictures I wanted and create a digital photo book. (yes, I’m patient enough to scan 100 photos, but not to do a scrapbook).
I chose to use Mixbook.com, one of the newer photo keepsake websites. I have never really made a photo book at any of the other website, so I can’t tell you how they compare in ease of use, options, or customization. I can only tell you my experience with Mixbook. At first I loved it, then I hated it, then I liked it again. Let me tell you why.
Collaborate With Others
First off, you upload the pictures you want to include to the website. This is handy (or not, you decide) for people who don’t want to download the editor to their PC to just make one photo book. This is also handy in allowing you to invite friends or family to work on the book with you. If someone you know has pictures of the same trip or event and you want to collaborate, Mixbook makes it pretty simple to do this. However, only one person at a time can be inside the book at a time, editing it. This makes sense so you’re not both trying to move the same picture around. I love the possibilities of being able to work on a book with someone; a Mother’s/Father’s Day gift from all the children, an album for grandparents of all the grandchildren, and so much more.
My mistake was clicking the ‘auto-mix’ button after I had placed most of the photos where I wanted them. Unfortunately, you can’t undo auto-mix and I would have known that had I read the warning box. So, I had to manually re-place all of my photos which took extra time. And I’m not patient. The only other problem I had with Mixbook was when choosing ‘New Theme’ it doesn’t change your book. I expected all of my pages to change to the new theme, but they don’t. You have new content that you can choose from on the left side, but it doesn’t do it for you.
Highly Customizable
Other than those two issues, it was pretty simple to add photos, rearrange items, remove items, add items and so much more. Everything is very customizable. You can chose pages, buttons, embellishments and items across many themes. You can even start with a blank theme if you are not creatively challenged like me.
Here are a couple pictures of how my wedding album turned out. It is really beautiful and professional looking. My pictures unfortunately do not show the detail very well. I am very pleased. Once I figured out how to do it correctly it went pretty quickly.

Mixbook also has personalized photo cards and Photo Wall Calendars for you to create from your digital photos.
