Get to Know Your Kid

Childhood is fleeting.

As a busy mother of four, I know this all too well.  In the blink of an eye, it seems, my once 7lb 13oz little boy is quickly approaching his 12th birthday.  The other three will surely grow up just as quickly.

I know as each day passes, each child gets closer and closer to becoming an adult and walking out the door.  It seems more frequently lately that I have been lying in bed at night feeling the oldest ones grow further and further away from me.  But what growing child has time (and desire) to sit and talk to mama when there are games to play, bikes to ride, friends to talk to and school to attend…

That’s why I love this book!

Get to Know Your Kid

Get to Know Your Kid, by Shana Connell Noyes, was made with the busy family in mind.  This book won’t slow life down, but it does offer opportunities to get a glimpse into your child’s world.  The book is filled with questions of all kinds from silly to serious.  It gives you a special place to jot down all the little things that come out of your child’s thoughts and keep them safely in a book.

A sample of questions:

  • Do you have any secret abilities that nobody knows about?
  • What is more important to you; money or happiness?  Health or happiness?  Why?
  • Can you remember at all what it was like being a baby?
  • Do you ever feel shy?  When?

My Thoughts

I have started asking some of the questions to my nine year old randomly these last few weeks.  Every time I ask him a question he takes a moment to think about it and often gets a big smile on his face.  I think he is enjoying just having me sit down with him to hear what he thinks about things.  I will treasure this book with my child’s ideas and dreams forever.

I now have to get one for each of my kids.
