Did you know that your kitchen is probably home to millions of germs right now? If you use your dishcloth for more than one day you are probably spreading germs all over the counter tops, cutting boards and everything else you wipe. But what if you only use it for one day?

I have gotten myself in the habit of changing the dishcloth every day. To me, it seemed like it would be cleaner and less likely to harbor bacteria and germs if I didn’t reuse the same cloth.

So when I was given the option of sending in my dishcloth for testing, I was curious. I was instructed to use the cloth for three days as I would normally use one. But, I wanted to be honest with you all, so I thought I would only use it for one day. I didn’t want to feed you information about the dishcloth being dirty after three days when I only use mine for one. I wanted to get the results after only using it for a day and see if that alone could help stop the spread of germs.

And that is what I did. I used it for one day; washing dishes, cleaning counters, stoves, and everything else I normally do.

My results

I’m happy to say that my dishcloth was cleaner than the average dishcloth that the P&G lab received. But it was far from being safe even after only one day of use.

ATP (adenosine triphosphate) monitoring was used to test my dishcloth. It tests the amount of organic soil such as food residue, dirt, and pet dander left behind on surfaces. A kitchen is considered unclean if it has more than 300 RLU’s. A kitchen over this has the potential to spread gems.

The average dishcloth used in this test was around 17,500 RLUs. Mine was at 12,000. Yuck!

Bounty DuraTowel Ditch & Switch

So what can I do to reduce the germs that I spread in my kitchen? I’m going to Ditch & Switch. I’ll be using Bounty DuraTowel in my kitchen to wipe counters and for normal cleanup.

Bounty DuraTowel is the only paper towel clinically proven to be 3x cleaner than a germy dishcloth. It also:

  • can be used in place of a dishcloth and tossed after use.
  • easily wipe up spills, drips and other messes with no fuss.
  • is a reliable solution for cleaning counters, table and appliances.
  • features a dishcloth-inspired design which calls attention to it’s cloth-like strength.

I picked up a pack of the Bounty DuraTowel to see how well they work. They are pretty strong. I got them wet and used them to clean with and they did not fall apart. The brand we usually get, a store brand, did fall apart pretty easily while doing the same tasks.

Bounty has convinced me to Ditch the dishcloth and switch to a safer way of cleaning with super strong paper towels.

Bounty exposed my dirty dishcloth and showed me the cleaner way to clean with Bounty DuraTowel, the only cloth-like, durable paper towel that is clinically proven to leave surfaces three times cleaner than a germy dishcloth.* Find out more here!
