Baby Time! iPad App

Don’t be fooled by the name!  When I first heard of this app I thought it would be for my baby.  My 8 month old baby.  I imagined she would be able to touch things on the iPad screen and to her delight experience movement or sounds.

Not the case.

Baby Time! is, in my opinion, geared more toward toddlers and up.  The first screen could almost be baby friendly, with guitars that make music, balloons that pop, blocks that fall and a few other things that come to life with the touch of a finger.  However, when you touch the clock or calendar on the front page you are taken to a more advanced area.  In these two areas, there are actually two levels of play.  Your child can continue with the touch play the same as the front screen or switch to a more advanced version which involves knowing how to tell time and knowing how to count.  Both of which a ‘baby’ cannot do.

There are also three other games that require an older child, some toddler level, some I would recommend for those older.

Decorating – In this area, your child can drag items from one side of the screen to the other to decorate their own little scene for each season.

Match the words – For this section, your child needs to know the season’s as well as how to read.  They pick a season word from the right and match it to the picture of that season on the left.

Telling time – If your child is learning to tell time, this section is perfect.  The child is given a time and instructed to pick which clock shows that time.

I am not giving this app a bad review.  It is a nice mix of education and fun for toddlers and up. It really is a decent app and worth checking out.  I think it is a great app for those little ones learning to tell time, learning how a calendar works and learning about seasons.  I am only warning those who see the name and think it might be a good app for baby.  It’s not a baby app.
